Nagarjuna Sagar Gates Opened 2020
Though 18 gates of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam were opened on 22 Aug 2020, public was not allowed to enter the area fearing that it would further spread Covid-19. The administration was quick to ensure enough policemen were deployed at all strategic points from where breathtaking view of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam could be captured in camera. Due to 22 Aug 2020 being a weekend, it was a perfect time and place for weekend vacationers, but Covid-19 played a spoilsport. Though it is good that district administration ensured no gathering by imposing section 144, it could have been handled better by allowing people in batches for limited time.

However, the latest Nagarjunasagar news is that only 2 gates were actually opened on Sunday 2 Sep 2018 and the news spread quickly. By afternoon, the dams started receiving huge crowd of visitors to get a glimpse of the dam which is known for not just its spectacular view when all gates are open but also for nearby other tourist attractions.
Visitors returned disappointed after 2-2:30 PM
Visitors started coming in groups but they were in for disappointment if they reached after 2 PM today as even those 2 gates which were opened in the morning, were closed again by 2:00 PM. Only a few lucky ones of those who could reach the dam before noon could catch a glimpse of the majestic Nagarjuna Sagar Dam with just 2 gates opened. In fact, many were expecting that more gates would be opened later in the day, but the opposite happened.
Will Nagarajuna Sagar Dam open again in 2018?
There is no confirmation about it from the official sources yet. As the inflow into the project decreased from 1.4 Lack cusecs to 72900 cusecs, the offcials decided to close the gates. The area receives deficit rainfall therefore all gates of Nagarjunasagar dam is almost a rare sight. The last time when its gate were opened was in 2014. Now only time will tell as to when the water level will again rise to its highest level at the dam so that the gates can be opened again.
